10 Study Hacks to Improve your Memory before an A-Level Paper

March 8, 2018

1. Walk before your exam

It has been proven that exercise can boost your memory and brain power as per a research conducted by Dr Chuck Hillman of the University of Illinois - 20 minutes of walking before your A-Level paper can improve performance.

2. Speak out loud instead of just reading

You'll be surprised at how much information you can take in!

3. Reward yourself with a treat

Set a rewards system whereby when you hit a certain chapter each day, you get something that you like, be it a snack or a 20 minute break - whatever motivates you to keep going!

4. Teach what you have learnt

If you can't get anyone to listen to you, grab a stuffed animal or teach your dog. As long as you can successfully explain the topic.

5.  Create mental associations

This is done through mind-mapping where you connect your ideas together which ultimately forms the concept and these brief notes will form trigger words in your head during your A-Level paper.

6.  Draw diagrams

Visual memories tend to be recalled better than a large amount of text during the A-Level examinations.

7. Times New Roman is the fastest font to read

Tried and tested - if you are typing out notes for your reference, this font will allow you to finish at a quicker pace.

8. Use apps to block distracting sites

If you know you are constantly distracted by Youtube or Facebook, download a self control app which temporarily blocks access to the sites you want to visit till your exams are over!

9. Listen to the correct type of music

Rock music or Pop music with catchy lyrics tend to make you forget what you are studying, instead try Mozart or something instrumental.

10. Don't stay up all night before an exam

Your brain assimilates the information you have learnt during the day while you sleep so make sure to get a good nights rest to help you remember your formulas and other information.
